The homeowners approached SM London Construction looking to completely reconfigure the rear of their property to create a larger, brighter, and more practical living environment. The vision was to replace the existing double garage with a bespoke 35m² rear extension that would seamlessly connect to the main house and create a spacious open-plan kitchen and entertaining space.
Our team began by demolishing the existing garage structure using specialist equipment including hammer drills, sledgehammers, and a digger to safely remove the original walls and foundations. Once the site had been cleared, we carried out all structural groundwork in-house, including the concrete foundations and complex steelwork installation required for the new extension.
One of the standout design features of this project was the impressive apex roof, which reaches almost four metres in height and creates a striking sense of openness within the new living area. Combined with a three-metre-wide French door opening leading out onto the patio, the extension now benefits from an abundance of natural light and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Despite these unexpected challenges, the project remained well organised and progressed efficiently thanks to our proactive project management approach and strong communication with the client throughout the build.

This rear extension project also required close coordination with several specialist subcontractors selected directly by the homeowner. The kitchen installation, aluminium patio doors, and flooring were all completed by independent firms chosen by the client.
