Ground Floor Extension and Conversion in Egham, Surrey
In August 2022, Lucy and Tom from Egham, Surrey contacted SM London Construction after discovering our outstanding reviews on Checkatrade. While they initially came across our work through searches related to loft conversions in Egham, they were actually looking to transform the ground floor of their home. Their plans included a rear extension and a garage conversion, and they chose us to bring their vision to life.
The Project
As with every one of our home renovation and loft conversion projects in Egham and across Surrey, we began with a site visit. This allowed us to assess the layout of the existing property, discuss the clients' goals, and collaborate with trusted architects to create detailed plans. We also helped the couple define a realistic budget and timeline before securing final approval to begin construction.
The build involved the careful removal of an outdated conservatory to make space for the new rear extension. From there, we began construction of both the new extension and an expanded garage, readying it for a full internal conversion. Key highlights from the transformation include:
- The new rear extension blended seamlessly into the main area of the house, as there were no doors separating the two. It served as a contemporary living space connected to the recently renovated and modernised kitchen. It also featured a large bifold door that opened into the garden, and an overhead skylight that flooded the space with plenty of natural light.
- After we expanded the garage, we decided to split it into two areas with a wall. We then converted the new space into both a study and a utility room. In the utility room, we installed clean white counters and cupboards that perfectly matched those in the kitchen, giving the home a neat and cohesive look. For the study, we made sure to set it up with full internet and electricity connectivity to create a conducive environment for work.
- As we worked on extending and converting the space, we also installed a new bathroom on the ground floor, an ensuite with a walk-in shower, and full underfloor heating.
The End Results
We completed the project in December 2022, delivering it on time and within budget. Lucy and Tom now enjoy a beautifully updated home with modern functionality and cohesive design. While this project wasn't a traditional loft conversion, it reflects the same attention to detail, planning expertise, and commitment to quality that define our loft conversions in Egham and beyond.
